NIGHT MARKET navigates the complexities in building cultural identities from the artists’ perspectives as “Third Culture Kids” (TCK). It is a personal journey of collecting memories, stories and reminders of home to experience belonging and connection, exploring how we piece together our own identities amidst constant change. This piece celebrates cultural diversity, drawing on the artists’ ties to Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Los Angeles, and Iceland to integrate western contemporary dance movement, city sounds, remixed Cantonese disco music, and songs inspired by Southeast Asian upbringings.
