療癒：以藝術之力突破疫症困境
CURATORIAL STATEMENT 展覽介紹
With the rage of COVID-19, life has been upended. What we used to take for granted has become unattainable. However, as time changes, lots of measures come, both physically and mentally, emerge. People from different realms are trying their best to cure others’ wounds. Art is of no exception. Artists from all over the world are working their way to deal with life within a pandemic, and to give the world hope.
< Cure: Power of Art Breaks Out the Lockdown of the Pandemic> features research-based works by local and overseas artists who share their experience during the pandemic. The exhibition not only reminds us the disturbing memory of COVID-19, but also reminds visitors that there are still many people working hard in overcoming this pandemic. Highlighting in the area of “cure”, the exhibition opens up visitors’ mind to a journey through the pandemic and hopefully introduce a more positive look at this devastating time.
何為新常態? 疫情下的生活有何改變? 我們又該如何去面對? 也許大家仍很迷茫。展覽作品探討在COVID-19疫情爆發的期間，來自世界各地的藝術家如何表達他們在疫情中的生活，以及如何透過藝術人創造新希望。
過去一年新冠病毒疫肆虐全球，它所造成的影響是我們前所未有的，它不但擾亂我們日常的生活，很多計劃無法實現，亦令我們充斥著不安情緒。但是隨著時間變化，大家都開始一起面對疫情所帶來的挑戰，採取各種措施以應對。不同領域的人們都儘最大努力去「療癒」他人。在COVID-19疫情籠罩下，世界各地的藝術家正在表述「迎戰」疫情生活所體悟的啟發，以期為世界帶來新希望，鼓勵人們疫情時仍得守望相助、療己療人。

Background: Pandemic & Lockdown 疫情與封城
Lots of artists, well known and unknown, started pouring out their feelings, perception, and point of view about COVID-19. The artwork displayed show feelings that have sprung from the pandemic: hope, solidarity, a sense of humour, chaos, encouragement. There is something about the idea of artists creating that work — giving the people these beautiful pieces of art during such a difficult time in our country’s history. Art can be a really great tool for humanity when it is under a lot of stress.
來自世界各地的藝術家開始表達他們對COVID-19的感受和觀點。這部分展出的藝術作品是希望為不同的人帶來希望以及鼓勵，讓大家能夠在艱難的時刻仍然團結一致。

The virus was first identified in December 2019, then it quickly spread to many countries around the world in early 2020 and gradually turned into a global pandemic. The artwork reflects the current problem caused by the coronavirus crisis COVID-19.
As we can see that the Earth looks sick. As of April 19, 2021, more than 141 million confirmed cases have been reported in 192 countries and regions around the world. It has become one of the large-scale epidemics in human history.
冠狀病毒於2019年12月首次被確定，隨後在2020年初迅速傳播到全球多個國 家，並逐漸演變為全球大流行。這幅作品反映了當前冠狀病毒危機引發的問題。
作品中的地球正反映瘟疫肆虐的世界。截至2021年4月19日，全球192個國家 和地區累計報告確診病例超過1.41億例。它已成為人類歷史上大規模流行病 之一。

The virus is represented as a giant, invading monster, out of horror film, its protein spikes protruding with menace. Explosive force seems to emanate from the virus, with a darkened field on the left. A uniformed medical worker tries to hold the creature at bay, as a kneeling woman prays for mercy beneath it, an open bible and various national flags and medicines scattered before her. To the left, we see a running skeleton and other human bones, to the right. Young men flee down the road. Behind them green-uniformed medical workers their arms raised in supplication. Various world leaders, most prominently Queen Elizabeth II and the Pope. are seen in masks. On the upper horizon line, we see identifying world landmarks, from Big Ben and St. Peters to the Statue of Liberty and the Great Pyramids. Small red viruses float through the air.

A phrase that actually scares everyone, especially nature that for some had finally taken a breath of fresh air. Maybe nobody out there will have missed us, nobody will run to us, also because they will be covered in gloves, masks and glass capsules. We’ll be different, frightened, more suspicious than before.
“海灘封閉，開封，再次封閉。 餐廳也如是……”

“Imagine all the people” is a project by Turin-based artist and illustrator Pierpaolo Rovero that fantasizes about the way people around the world spend their time in quarantine. Depicting a diverse range of metropolitan panoramas, from New York and Paris, to Jerusalem, to Tokyo, Rovero imagines the citizens of each city indulging in the same activity while stuck at home, allowing viewers to catch glimpses through windows, balconies and skylights.
“想像每一個人”是一個由Pierpaolo Rovero所設計的一系列作品，他幻想著世界各地人們在檢疫上的生活方式，例如描繪了從紐約和巴黎到耶路撒冷到東 京的各種各樣的大都市全景圖，他想像每個城市的市民在家裡時都沉迷於相同的活動中，從而使觀看者可以透過窗戶，陽台和天窗窺見一斑。

Workers take every precaution to keep themselves and others safe from the coronavirus in Carolyn Olson’s pastel drawings. These same workers, unable to work from home, have to come into close contact with scores of people every day. And social distancing isn’t always an option, depending on the work site. Since March, the artist from Duluth, Minnesota, has been paying tribute to all kinds of workers deemed essential during the pandemic. For their sake, Olson wants the rest of us to do better.

Hopeful messages: Stay home and wait for good news. The messages behind his painting are pretty enormous, and the artist is trying to pass on the good news through this artwork. We can see the white doves on the top middle carry an olive branch in the mouth, which means peace, love, and hope in there. Dive into the background of the painting, and we will find many country flags, meaning the bird is spreading the good news to peel around the world, reminding people to unite together and be patient and hope, believing the cure is on its way.
